Operational systems. Data. Decision support.

Most organisations
don't have an AI problem.
They have a data problem.

Databolt builds operational systems that improve the quality of data, information, and decision making. We start with the operation. AI is the final layer, not the foundation.

Where this comes from

Databolt grew out of running our own operation in land and wildlife management through Atlex. When the systems we needed did not exist in a form that matched real operational work, we built them. That experience shapes how we approach every problem.

We build operational systems because we have lived with the consequences of poor information. That is a different starting point from a consultancy.

The problem

Organisations collect data. They rarely collect it well.

01Fragmented collection

Data lives in disconnected systems, spreadsheets, paper, email threads, and individual memory. Nothing connects.

02Inconsistent quality

Records are captured differently by different people at different times. Analysis built on inconsistent data produces unreliable conclusions.

03Poor operational visibility

Decision makers cannot see what is happening in real time. Questions that should take seconds take hours or days.

04Manual reporting

Reports are rebuilt by hand from scattered sources, often days after the work was done. Errors compound.

05Delayed decision making

By the time information reaches the right people, the operational moment has passed.

AI rarely solves these problems directly. Better operational systems solve them first. Once the data foundation is right, AI becomes genuinely useful. Until then, it is expensive pattern-matching on unreliable inputs.

How we work

Operations first. AI last. Always.

Every system we build follows the same discipline. We work from the ground up, because the value of each layer depends on the integrity of the one below it.

AI applied to good data is powerful. AI applied to bad data is expensive and misleading.

final layer 06
AI Assistance
Pattern recognition, prediction, and automation applied only where the data beneath it is reliable.
05
Decision Support
The right information reaching the right people at the right time.
04
Insight
Patterns, trends, and answers derived from structured, reliable data.
03
Information
Connected records that give context and meaning to raw data.
02
Data Capture
Structured, consistent collection at the point of work. Not transcribed later.
01
Operations
The real work, the real environment, the real decisions that need to improve.
Proof of the approach

Karnyx: the approach applied to a real operation.

Karnyx is the platform we built to run our own operational environments in land and wildlife management. It is the clearest example of what happens when you apply this method to a real operational environment. It is not a concept. It is a working system built from inside the work.

What Karnyx captures and connects:

Operational records
Logged at the point of work, tied to a precise location.
Land parcels
The structural backbone connecting every action to where it occurred.
Observations
Structured against parcels and conditions, not free text in a notebook.
Carcass traceability
From the operation to the chiller to the dealer, with a clean audit trail.
Chiller records
What is stored, where, and for how long. Answered without a phone call.
Reporting and visibility
Built from the same data the operation captured. Across sites and teams.

Because data is captured correctly from the first moment, the operation has reliable reporting today, and a clean foundation for analysis and future AI assisted work when the time is right.

In active use in our own operation. Currently being rebuilt as version two.
One approach. Multiple environments.

The challenge is often the same.

The operational problems Databolt addresses are not unique to land management. Fragmented data, poor visibility, manual reporting, and delayed decision making appear in every complex operational environment. The method that built Karnyx applies wherever those conditions exist.

Defence and security

Good data compresses the OODA loop. When observation, orientation, and decision are supported by reliable information and AI-assisted analysis, the limiting factor shifts from data to people and equipment. The question becomes not what do we know, but are we in the right place with the right capability.

Aviation

The best pilots are not just skilled. They are adaptive. They build situational awareness faster, recognise patterns earlier, and make better decisions under pressure. That capability has always been developed through experience, which is slow, expensive, and unevenly distributed across the profession. Structured performance data combined with AI-assisted analysis changes that equation. Not by replacing pilot judgement, but by accelerating its development. We think the next generation of exceptional pilots will be defined by how well their training systems use data.

Energy and infrastructure

The most expensive moment in energy and infrastructure operations is the failure nobody saw coming. Every major incident has a data failure somewhere in its causation chain. The systems that prevent unplanned downtime are not complex. They start with knowing what you have, where it is, and what it is telling you.

Environmental management

The natural environment generates enormous amounts of operational data. Population trends, habitat change, species distribution, land use, intervention outcomes. Most of it is captured inconsistently, stored in disconnected systems, and never synthesised into a picture that could drive better decisions. The organisations managing these environments operationally, at scale, across large land areas and complex regulatory frameworks, need systems that make that data usable. Better information produces more effective environmental outcomes.

Asset management

An asset that fails at the wrong moment, in the wrong place, with no warning is not just a maintenance problem. It is an operational failure with a data signature that was always there. The right systems make that signature visible before the failure happens.

Public sector

In most organisations, the people who make decisions and the people who experience the consequences are the same people. In the public sector, they are not. That accountability gap makes data quality a matter of direct public consequence. Decisions built on fragmented, inconsistent information do not just produce operational inefficiency. They produce outcomes that fall on people who had no part in creating the data failures behind them.

We do not claim active products in these sectors beyond Karnyx. What we are saying is that the underlying operational challenge is often structurally identical: fragmented data, inconsistent quality, poor visibility, delayed decisions. The method that solved it in one environment applies in others.

About Databolt

Built for operational complexity.

Databolt develops practical operational systems for complex, real-world environments. We work across data, automation, software, AI, and product development.

We build systems because we have lived with the consequences of poor information. That is a different kind of starting point from a firm that studies operations from the outside.

Operator led. Evidence driven. Data focused.

Beyond Karnyx

The same method, applied further.

Karnyx is where this started. The same approach, operation first and data structured correctly from the beginning, is being applied to other operational problems.
